Laby Harmony Project uses music training to promote the healthy growth and development of children. The program provides high quality tuition-free music instruction to children in grades K-12, currently serving over 160 students in Ventura year-round. By collaborating with students, families, and local partners, and together with our generous supporters, we are building a stronger, healthier, and more musically engaged community.

Betsy Chess, Honorary Chair of this year’s annual Laby Harmony Project Celebration, announces the celebration concert by the Laby Harmony Project students and an Ice Cream Social to be held April 30, 2022 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. The event will take place at Limoneira Ranch in Santa Paula.

“This year we are reminding our valued sponsors and donors that the Laby Harmony Project is designed and structured to help shape a student’s musical trajectory during critical developmental periods,” says board member Nancy Israel. “They can start the program in Kindergarten and continue through High School, so we are thinking about how we can provide multi-year pledges and even leave something for them as a Legacy gift.”

Hermanos Herrera will receive the Sandra Laby Memorial Award, for making the world a better place through music and education. United by blood and through music, Hermanos Herrera is a musical group consisting of five brothers and their younger sister performing various styles of traditional Mexican music such as Son Huasteco, Son Jarocho, and musica Norteña. Beyond music, Hermanos Herrera have established themselves as well-rounded scholars and academics. All 6 members of the band are graduates of UCLA, with several members holding additional master’s degrees from both UCLA and USC.
