2022/2023 Masterpiece Series Season

Nurture your love of great symphonic music and new traditions that bring special meaning to our lives! New West Symphony is thrilled to announce our 2022/2023 Masterpiece Series Season.

Our talented orchestra, comprised of some of Hollywood’s finest musicians, returns to the stage to present a season of new and old favorites alongside GRAMMY Award-winning Artistic and Music Director Michael Christie and internationally-renowned guest artists. Revel in the talents of up-and-coming conductor Enluis Montes Olivar, cellist Ifetayo Ali-Landing, charming pianist Sean Chen, and others.

Returning this season for families and holiday revelers is our annual December performance of wintertime and holiday masterworks, Winter Spectacular. From the music of Debussy to Tchaikovsky, you won’t want to miss this budding holiday tradition.

The new season also features a live performance of Philharmonia Fantastique: The Making of an Orchestra, a new fantastical combination of the orchestral music composed by GRAMMY® Award-winning composer Mason Bates and animated/live action film. The beautiful short movie, featuring the original animation by Academy Award®-nominated animator  Jim Capobianco,  illuminates how the instruments of the orchestra are played and highlights the unique role of each in the orchestra.

Marking the middle of the season will be our Binging on Mozart concert. A delightful selection of chamber, orchestral, operatic, and solo works curated from over six hundred of Mozart’s compositions will take you on a grand tour of his musical genius. The season resumes in September with our penultimate concert Sparkling Classical. Pianist Sean Chen captures perfectly the whimsical nature of Richard Strauss’ Burlekse for piano and orchestra.

Our final of the concert is  Beethoven to Brubeck, featuring the photography of Ansel Adams set to the music of late jazz great Dave Brubeck and his son Chris Brubeck. The Brubecks’ one-movement piece fully integrates sweeping melodies with one hundred and two striking images of or by the great American photographer. Beethoven’s immortal Symphony No. 5, the work that forever changed music, closes out this incredible season.
