José Adán Pérez

Biography

Baritone José Adán Pérez is an alumnus of Los Angeles Opera Placido Domingo’s Young Artist Program, the AVA of Philadelphia, Aspen Opera Theater, IVAI Israel and SIVAM Opera Program.

He made his operatic debut at the Los Angeles Opera, performing the role of Marcello in La bohème, under the baton of Plácido Domingo. Since then, he has performed in Europe, Asia, North and Central America, at prestigious venues and with renowned artistic institutions such as the New York City Opera (Lincoln Center), Los Angeles Philharmonic (Hollywood Bowl), Los Angeles Master Chorale (Disney Concert Hall), San Diego Opera, Hawaii Opera, Phoenix Symphony, Colburn Chamber Music Society, Fukushima Philharmonic, Aspen Music Festival, Theater Basel in Switzerland, Teatro Massimo Bellini in Italy, as well as the Opera de Bellas Artes, Teatro Bicentenario de León, Jalisco Philharmonic, Yucatan Symphony, Michoacan Symphony, Sinaloa Symphony, OFUNAM, Festival Cervantino in Mexico, and The Duke at 42nd and 54 Bellow on Broadway.

His voice has served the distinguished batons of Plácido Domingo, James Conlon, Gustavo Dudamel, Michele Mariotti, Grant Gershon, Israel Gursky, Angel Romero, Michael Christie, Will Humburg, Nikša Bareza, Marco Balderi, Emmanuel Plasson, Gary Thor Wedow, Eduardo Diaz-Munoz, Douglas Kinney Frost, Marco Parisotto, Enrique Patrón, José Areán, Ivan Lopez Reynoso, Juan Carlos Lomónaco, James Demster, and more.

Pérez has produced and co-produced various events in Mexico, Japan, and the United States, including tributes to Pedro Infante and Álvaro Carrillo accompanied by the “Mariachi Real de Mexico” in New York City, as well as recitals and gala concerts in front of members of the Imperial House of Japan. He has shared the stage with renowned actors and singers such as Bruno Bichir, Tania Libertad, Eugenia León and Natalia Lafourcade.

As a voice teacher in New York City, his students have performed at various venues in the city, including Broadway’s Theaters on musicals like “The Lion King” and “Kinky Boots.”

His discography includes opera recordings such as Il Postino and Die Gezeichneten with the Los Angeles Opera, Fauré’s Requiem with OFUNAM, and the opera Únicamente la Verdad by Gabriela Ortiz, which received a Latin Grammy Classical Award nomination; and has produced several recordings with the groups “Banda Nueva York” and “Los Sinaloenses de Cuidado” as crossover projects.

Before beginning his musical pursuits, Pérez, a Bachelor of Science graduate from Tecnológico de Monterrey, worked several years in the automobile industry as a quality engineer.
