We're thrilled to welcome actor/comedian Jim Meskimen as the narrator for Saint-Saëns' Carnival of the Animals for our March 1 & 2 concerts.
An actor for nearly 40 years, Meskimen has appeared on TV shows Friends, NCIS, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Young Sheldon, SWAT, Hunters, Parks & Recreation, and Landman, to name a few. Film credits include Apollo 13, The Grinch and There Will Be Blood. His character voices and impressions have been heard on innumerable video games, commercials and animated shows.

“Our first experience at New West was on January 25, 2025. We had just moved into our new home in Thousand Oaks on January 15, after delaying our move from Ohio for a week because of the growing concern about new fires in the area that might jeopardize our family. After a week of terror and worry about the fires and worries about whether we would need to evacuate so soon after moving in, attending New West Symphony's performance was quite a relief. We enjoyed the diverse program, ranging from Tchaikovsky's 4th to ET, with a salute to Chinese Culture as the cherry on top. We wish all the New West orchestra members, conductor, and administrative staff a wonderful 30th anniversary celebration.”

O Fortuna! Thus begins the epic Carmina Burana, to be performed by the New West Symphony on March 1 & 2, along with the NWS Chorus and renowned vocal soloists.
Carnival of the Animals is a humorous, imaginative musical suite featuring accomplished actor, improviser and voice artist Jim Meskimen, whose work is well-known to TV and film audiences.
The talented Vieness Piano Duo performs throughout the concert, and the Los Robles Children's Choir and State Street Ballet Professional Track dancers are also featured in this special performance!

Horner's music for Apollo 13 is simple, direct and an eloquent evocation of the personal strength of integrity, knowledge and bravery of those who made that program a source of national pride.
E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial was nominated for nine Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and John Williams’ memorable score won both an Oscar and a Golden Globe Award.

"The concerto is written for the Liquanqin, an erhu with three nuts, two switchable and movable buts. This is the first Liquanqin concerto in history and the world's first public concert of this instrument! The Liquanqin is designed by Mr. Ma Liquan from China." ~Hong Wang
