One day a year we celebrate a type of music born in America. That’s right, April 30 is International Jazz Day. Originating in African-American communities of New Orleans and expanding to all continents and peoples, jazz should be celebrated!

What better to enjoy than the music of the Marcus Roberts Trio, who opened our 2019/2020 season with their spectacular rendition of Gershwin’s Concerto in F! These gentlemen have crafted a sound truly in the spirit of jazz, giving equal weight to each instrument: piano, double bass, and drum set.

Watch them do it in their special way with “I Got Rhythm.” It happened to be their encore at the Camarillo performance of our October concert.

Now, you’ve got to see the way they sync with an orchestra and give new life to Gershwin with improvisation – the heart of jazz.

Are you a jazz lover too? Who else deserves a mention on International Jazz Day?
