Reena Esmail, Indian-American composer hailing from Los Angeles, has enjoyed commissions and premieres with LA Phil, Los Angeles Master Chorale, Seattle Symphony, and Baltimore Symphony among others. She was also Composer-in-Residence for the Street Symphony, which engages communities in Los Angeles affected by homelessness and incarceration with music.

As a Fulbright Scholar, Esmail studied Hindustani music in India, and her doctoral thesis explores “the methods and challenges of the collaborative process between Hindustani musicians and Western composers.”

November 2020, Esmail will premiere a work with New West Symphony on the same program as Beethoven’s legendary Symphony No. 9. We’re looking forward to advancing the classical repertoire with a local composer, just as Beethoven did centuries ago with his groundbreaking Choral symphony.
