Music Director Search

The New West Symphony is currently in the midst of a 3-year process to find its next Music Director. We began our Music Director search during the 2016-2017 season with six candidates – all excellent conductors with potential to lead the symphony to new artistic heights. We acquainted ourselves with each candidate through a process that involved having preferred candidates return for second performances, to see them conduct different styles of music. To select these finalists, we formed a committee of board members, staff, and musicians from the orchestra, all giving their feedback on the many facets of the candidates’ performances.

Three outstanding conductors emerged from this process, and we’ve called on each of them to return for one more New West Symphony performance: Kynan Johns conducted our January 2018 concert; Tania Miller closed our season in May 2018, and Fawzi Haimor will return to conduct our November 2018 concert.

As we welcome back these maestros to lead the orchestra again, we look forward to finding an artistic director who will represent arts leadership in our community. We expect to announce our new music director in early 2019, and who will be making his or her debut season to coincide with our 25th anniversary season.

Meet the three remaining finalists below, and don’t miss their return performances with the New West Symphony!
